NEWSLETTER - JANUARY 2010
WELCOME:

Here we are into 2010 and before we know it 2011. By the time you read this newsletter 2009 would be part of our memories bank and what a year to remember.

The October reunion went well down in Christchurch and many thanks to all of those that attended and special thanks to the helpers which was much appreciated. Special big thanks to Rex Harris for the use of his vast knowledge.

I hope all had a great Xmas and New Year break although some of us have had to work but no gripes as life goes on.

SINGAPORE 2011

At the Reunion 2009 meeting it was tabled that a final visit to Dieppe Barracks the former base of 1 RNZIR take place in April 2011. This was due to the information that Dieppe Barracks was to be demolished.

I have sent out Expressions of Interest through all types of available media and the response has been great. If all of those who have expressed interest were to go to Singapore today we would be looking at over 100 people, which is a pretty good number. There have been a number from across the ditch who have said they are getting groups together as well so numbers may hit 150.

WORD needs to get out and about and everyone in receipt of this newsletter needs to pass it onto other contacts.

I have been in contact with numerous organisations such as Singapore Airlines which I had a meeting with on 6th January 2010 to discuss options. Basically there will be one option for personnel interested in going but should you wish to use other transporters please do so.

I am going to be in Singapore 23-24th February and have asked for a meeting with the Defence Attaché in Singapore to go through a programme. The dates are going to be 22 April to 29 April 2011 with an emphasis on 25th April (ANZAC DAY) commemorations. 

Should anyone wish to submit some suggestions for the week please do so and let myself know soon as possible?

The financial side of this trip is being sorted out at the moment and more details will come out after the visit to Singapore Airlines. Currently the fares are $1700.00, and accommodation at approximately $700.00 per person.

There will no doubt be a requirement to pay a deposit per person and this will be near the end of this newsletter as I will discuss with Singapore Airlines.

The internal costs we hope will add up to approximately $600.00 per person.

Again should you wish to organise your own plans I will after my February visit have organised a venue for all to meet up on Saturday. NOW the York Hotel 1300hrs Saturday 23 April.

For those who live in Australia I believe it would be far easier for you to organise your own plans as we have suggested.

Accommodation will be based at the York Hotel which is 5 minutes from Orchard Road.

All of our reunions are open to all family and friends and should anyone wish to bring along others please do so. Lorna and I are bringing along a group of 8.

NEXT NEW ZEALAND REUNION

The next reunion to be held in New Zealand will be held in Mount Maunganui over Labour weekend (October) 2011.

A full weekend of activities will be planned for this weekend. Again it is up to everyone to get the word out and those who are unable to go to Singapore this is another great chance to catch up with Old friends rather than just through the Internet.

It is a great feeling when you see a mate again who you may have not seen for over 30 years.
